Overview:
The HSI Babysitter Safety Course, offered through EPTSAL, equips youth with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to care for infants and children safely and responsibly. Designed for participants ages 11 and up, this interactive course uses a repetition-based approach to help students retain life-saving information and develop leadership abilities they can use at home, in their communities, and in future careers.

This course is structured to reinforce key safety concepts through hands-on activities, scenario-based learning, and practical discussions—ensuring students not only learn, but remember and apply what they’ve learned when it matters most.

Course Objectives:
Participants will gain skills to:

  • Responsibly supervise children and infants

  • Recognize and respond to common medical emergencies, including choking, bleeding, and allergic reactions

  • Perform hands-only or certified CPR and first aid for children and infants (optional certification available)

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians

  • Promote safe environments and identify home hazards

  • Manage typical babysitting scenarios, such as meal preparation, bedtime routines, and discipline
